PSA - Evaluation of well barrieres during wireline operations

The Petroleum Safety Authority in Norway is currently looking into an incident where a wireline retrievable safety valve got stuck in the Christmas tree and obstructed closure of the master valve during a wireline intervention activity. Wellbarrier has been requested to perform an evaluation of the available barriers during the sequence of events on the actual job. The evaluation has considered the following:

1. Compliance with PSA Safety regulation, Facilities and Activity regulations in particular.

2. Compliance with Norsok D-010 rev. 3 Well integrity in drilling and well operations.

3. Comment to the available barriers during the well activity.

It should be noted that this evaluation is based on the original work program and daily operations report. Well specific data has been used and we have had access to some risk assessment material associated with this job.

In addition to comments to the well specific incident, there is also a generic consideration to the use of well barriers during wireline activities.
